Rembrandt's PR and Writing Blog for Startup Success: Find Your Niche-Part 2

An Interview with Philippa Kennealy, MD MPH CPCC PCC Part 2

Photo_of_philippa_kennealy_5On Monday, I shared insights from Philippa Kennealy, MD MPH CPCC PCC, an experienced doctor and small business owner who now helps other entrepreneurs succeed. As the founder of The Entrepreneurial MD, The Entrepreneurial MD, she coaches physician-entrepreneurs to create and run meaningful businesses.

In the second part of our discussion, Philippa shared some great tips with me:

Are there any tools and services you recommend other entrepreneurs use when starting a business?

Yes. Here are my favorites beginning from when I started building The Entrepreneurial MD:

  1. An iPod or MP3 player to capture all the many free and low cost classes, teleclasses, lectures, etc. Turn your car or waiting time into a mini university to educate yourself. I have over 100 hours of education on my iPod - so I am NEVER bored waiting in line!

  2. A website built on a blogging platform to give you the search-engine friendliness AND capacity to manage it yourself (sorry, webmasters!). I use and highly recommend SquareSpace.

  3. An autoresponder like aWeber that lets you communicate automatically with your target market that has opted in via your website to receive your communications.

  4. An audio recording system like AudioAcrobat to record your classes, podcast interviews, testimonials, and introduction to your business/services/products on your website. People enjoy the more personal touch of hearing your voice (and even seeing you through adding video to your website).

  5. A marketing system that includes your marketing plan, your selected marketing activities, and the action items that you will implement systematically and consistently to attract and retain clients.

  6. A team that you carefully assemble, including your CPA, financial advisor, business attorney, business advisor, and insurance agent. PLUS anyone else who wants you to succeed and who is willing to be on your "Personal Advisory Board."

  7. Peers and colleagues who are doing similar things to you, to brainstorm with and get feedback from, such as in a Mastermind group.
